On your first visit, a detailed case history will be taken. This will involve questions about your current problem, past episodes, your medical history and general health. This allows us to begin to get an idea of where the symptoms are coming from, what tissues are involved.
We will then examine the areas of your body causing discomfort. Sometimes the cause of the problem maybe in a different area to the pain, so we need to examine the whole body. We need to feel for tightness in the muscles and stiffness in the joints to identify the underlying cause of the problem. It maybe necessary to ask you to remove some clothing, so that we can see and touch the areas involved. We want you to feel at ease, so if you feel uncomfortable undressing then please discuss it with us.
We will make a diagnosis and discuss a course of treatment tailored to you as an individual.
If we think that osteopathy is not appropriate for you, we will tell you and refer you to your GP or other healthcare practitioners.
Treatment involves a range of gentle hands on techniques that focus on releasing tension, stretching muscles and improving mobility, together with providing exercises, posture and lifestyle advise.
Some patients may feel some mild discomfort or soreness for 24-48hours after treatment. If you experience serious or unusual symptoms after treatment then please contact us for advise.
